• CBD, THE “BOY SCOUT MOLECULE”

CBD has been a trend for some time now, but lately, even more so popping up everywhere in many shapes and forms.

You'll find it in edibles, topicals, balms, patches, tinctures, vaporizers, capsules, oils, teas, coffees, even artisanal chocolate…oh my!

Curious to try it or better understand what it can help you with? Here is all you need to know.

    What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound found in the Cannabis sativa plant with important therapeutic properties that help your body adapt to outside stressors and maintain homeostasis, a.k.a balance.

Why all the craze about CBD?

CBD acts as an adaptogen on your body's endocannabinoid system and helps reduce inflammation, chronic pain, and stress levels.  It can also improve gut health, alertness, rheumatoid arthritis, and even help kill cancer cells.  Very versatile!  So much that some researchers call it "they boy scout molecule" as it always does the right thing in any given situation.

Is CBD the same as marijuana?

Nope. Although CBD comes from the same plant that produces hemp and marijuana, the main difference is that CBD contains less than 0.3% of THC, the psychoactive compound found in marijuana that makes you high.  If you're looking to get stoned, this won't do it, sorry!

    The "Entourage Effect"

For CBD to be a rock star and work its true magic, it is best if all the main components of the cannabis plant are present and working synergistically.  There are over 400 natural components, but the main players to look for are terpenes, which have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, flavonoids which are anti-oxidant, and healthy fatty acids.

To give you that optimal effect, choose Full or Broad-spectrum CBD.  Full-spectrum has a THC trace less than 0.3%, and Broad-spectrum has no THC at all. You choose!

    Purity is key

As CBD is not regulated by the FDA yet, make sure:

    • You choose one that is extracted from therapeutic (cannabinoid-rich) hemp, as opposed to cannabinoid-deficient industrial hemp.
    • It is manufactured in a registered lab that follows cGMP standards and AHPA guidelines.
    • You seek out third-party tested and certified brands.
    • You check that it's made using a clean extraction process free from solvents and harsh chemicals.
    • Oil and gel capsules are the purest forms and great if you want to maintain steady levels throughout the day.  Topicals are best if you want to feel that fantastic effect directly on your skin.

Feeling like a CBD pro? I bet you do!
